The Affordable Technology Initiative

The United States disposes of millions of electronic devices annually, with computers forming a substantial part of this electronic waste (e-waste). According to recent estimates, the country generates around 9.4 million tons of e-waste each year, making it one of the largest contributors globally. Computers and other electronics often end up in landfills or are improperly disposed of, which leads to significant environmental harm due to toxic components like lead and mercury.

Statistics show that a large portion of these discarded computers could be refurbished, repurposed, or recycled. However, only about 12.5% of e-waste is recycled appropriately, often due to a lack of awareness or accessible recycling options. The vast amount of e-waste produced has intensified efforts to promote environmentally friendly recycling methods and develop infrastructure for proper e-waste disposal, including partnerships with companies specializing in electronics recycling.

At Applied Technology Solutions, we started The ATI (Affordable Technology Initiative) to accomplish a two-fold purpose:

1. To rescue refurbishable computers from our counties landfills, and

2. Be able to provide affordable technology resources within our realm of service.

We prefer to promote reuse over recycling!  Reusing expired computers extends the lifecycle of these electronics and is a more environmentally friendly approach to these issues.  It reduces waste, manufacturing costs, requires less energy and provides affordable options for those financially challenged to acquire a quality and dependable computer.

ATI is an electronics refurbisher and recycler, committed to extending the life of your retired electronic devices, when at all possible. We maintain the highest standards in electronics recycling and data security, ensuring any confidential data that was ever on your device is never compromised.  By choosing to recycle with The ATI, you can feel good about helping us create a sustainable future for our community in need and our planet.

Our Mission:

At The ATI, we strive to protect businesses, families and individuals from the threat of improperly disposed electronic devices through technology data management, computer recovery and recycling services.  We hope to reduce the footprint of electronic waste in our landfills while providing affordable computer purchase options for those who are struggling financially in our community.
